Puerto Maldonado is Peru’s premier destination for connecting travelers with spectacular wildlife experiences, surrounding Lake Sandoval and the Tambopata River. Whether you prefer colorful birds, caimans and snakes, piranhas, or just swinging through the trees and paddling up the river in a canoe, we have a tour ready for you to enjoy.
All tour packages described below can be done in a single day ranging from 3-15 hours. The price is per person, and they are shared tours, meaning you will be joining others outside of your immediate group. The guides speak Spanish as their first language but are conversational in English.
- Gratuities are not included unless noted.
- Ensure you are up to date on all vaccinations for traveling in the Peru, especially the jungle.
- A full list of recommended items to bring with you will be sent when you reserve.
- A minimum of 5 days advance notice is recommended.
Package Descriptions
A full day of adventure begins with a hotel pickup and transport to the port, where you’ll board a boat and enjoy a delicious lunch. The first activity is a Canopy tour, offering a unique perspective of the rainforest from high above the ground. Next, you’ll experience the thrill of zip-lining through the treetops. After a well-deserved lunch, the adventure continues with a scenic kayak expedition along the Madre Dios River, allowing you to immerse yourself in the natural beauty. The next stop is Monkey Island, where you’ll explore the habitat and observe various monkey species. As the day ends, you’ll cruise back to Puerto Maldonado and be transferred to your hotel.

Departing in the morning, the exact time will be messaged to you the day before your tour, but generally be ready by 7 a.m., the van will pick up various guests from their Puerto Maldonado hotels, and return you there in the mid-afternoon before dinner time.

A quarter-day trip to Lake Yacumama to fish for red-bellied Piranha, as well as black and white piranha. You will learn all about the various species, truths and myths, and the environment they thrive in. Catch-and-release practices are observed to ensure the piranha population is preserved intact.

Departures are at 3:30 p.m. in the afternoon, with a return at 6:00 p.m. Along the way, you will see the beautiful natural surroundings of the Amazon, including birds like macaws, parrots, and parakeets.

One of the most sought tours in the region, take an all-day trip to see a massive formation of red macaws feasting on their clay lick deep in the Amazon forest. Breakfast and lunch are included as we journey from Puerto Maldonado to the village of Filadelfia, then up the Tambopata river where you will spend 3 hours at different vantage points to see this amazing wonder. Alongside the river you can also look for other animals like reptiles, monkeys, and jaguars.
