    Mostly known as a little bit of Austria in Peru, Oxapampa is also a wonderland of outdoor adventures, hiking, cultural events, and bird watching, all in the spectacular cloud forest of central Perú.  You’ll be swept up by its charm, unique blend of cultures, and stunning natural beauty. Founded by Austrian and German settlers in the 19th century, the town boasts a distinct European influence, evident in its architecture and traditions. Surrounded by lush rainforests and rolling hills, Oxapampa offers a serene escape for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. Visitors can explore the Yanachaga-Chemillén National Park, home to diverse wildlife and breathtaking landscapes. The town is also famous for its coffee plantations, producing some of the finest coffee in the region. Festivals and cultural events are a significant part of Oxapampa’s identity, celebrating its rich heritage and vibrant community spirit. Whether you’re hiking through the verdant forests, savoring local delicacies, or immersing yourself in the town’s history, Oxapampa promises an unforgettable experience.

    All tour packages described below can be done in a single day ranging from 4-12 hours. The price is per person and all require a minimum of two persons to reserve. The guides speak Spanish as their first language but may be conversational in English.

    • Meals and gratuities are not included unless noted.

    Package Descriptions

    This half-day tour is a great choice for staying local to Oxapampa and its immediate surroundings. You will get not just a tour of the city itself, but visits to the places of work that buoy Oxapampa’s economy and some of its closest natural settings.

    Departures daily at 10:30 a.m. from Oxapampa’s main town plaza, and returns at 13:30 (1:30 p.m.)

    Pozuzo is the star attraction of Oxapampa, a small village that started as an Austrian colony granted land by the Peru government to settlers in 1859.  The tour seeks to give a wider context by first visiting the village square, the Prusia neighborhood, the colonist’s cemetery, the local beer factory, and some visits to the surrounding nature like the Yulitnuqui waterfall.

    Guides speak Spanish and English.

    Departing at 6:00 a.m. from the Oxapampa town plaza in front of the church, and returning to the same by 18:00 (6 p.m.)

    Huancabamba is the oldest district of the province and the origins of the Austro-German colony in Perú. While no longer culturally active, architectural remnants tell the story of the beginnings of the migration and settlement of the area amid what is still some of the most exquisite landscapes, where we will take you hiking to waterfalls.

    Guides speak Spanish.

    Departing at 8:30 a.m. from the Oxapampa town plaza in front of the church, and returning to the same by 17:30 (5:30 p.m.)

    Villa Rica is the heart of coffee production in the Oxapampa region, and this tour will treat you to both a coffee farm and tasting as well as a chocolate factory (locally grown) and tasting.  On the way we will visit the main square of Villa Rica to see the largest coffee machine in the world that only operates once per year.  Then we will proceed to a chocolate factory to learn about the process of making chocolate from cocoa. For a break, we’ll go to the El Oconal wetland to take a boat ride to observe different types of birds and endemic plants. You’ll get to experience Ichtihoterapy, a healing treatment by which small fish nibble the dry skin from your toes. We return to the gastronomic side of the tour to visit a working coffee farm to see the growth of coffee plants, and the process of transforming the beans into coffee. On the way back,  you’ll also get to take a short swim if desired in the Leon waterfall and get a commanding view of the valley from the lookout point.

    Yanachaga Chemillén National Park is located in the Pasco region and covers an area of ​​122,000 hectares. It was created in 1986 with the intention of achieving the conservation of the watersheds on the slopes of the Yanachaga mountain range, as well as offering protection to vulnerable or endangered species found in the area. 

    This half-day tour is especially suited for birders and hikers.

    Departures daily at 8:00 a.m. from Oxapampa’s main town plaza, and returns at 12:30 p.m.
